In a region where youth drivers love to show their driving skills on the roads, where vast areas of deserts and dunes lay ahead for wadi bashing, and where video gamers love to compete in racing games, it seems the perfect place to run a DiRT 2 tournament.
The First Codemasters' DiRT 2 Cup in the Middle East will take place shortly, where thousands of rally racing fans can compete against each other, in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Doha and Al Manama. Sony PlayStation 3, Nissan, Codesmasters, and Pluto Games join forces to organize one of the biggest rally gaming tournaments in the Middle East. The tournament, which will be played on PlayStation3 consoles, will start on October 1, 2009 at the Gamers Alliance Middle East Show 2009 (GAMES09) Dubai Festival City, and will run for 3 days. The tournament will then travel to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Manama, and Doha to be held in Virgin Megastore showrooms. In Saudi Arabia the competition will be held at Tokyo Games showrooms in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah. The finals will gather 1 person from each city across the GCC to battle it out in the last round in Dubai in Virgin Mega Store. The dates are as follows: 29-30 October KSA, Dammam, Tokyo Games, Al-Rashed Mall 29-30 October KSA, Riyadh, Tokyo Games, Al Olya Street 06-07 November Qatar 06-07 November Kuwait 13-14 November Bahrain 20-21 November UAE, Abu Dhabi 27-28 November UAE, Dubai (Finals) During the races, players will be tutored by a virtual representation of legendary racer Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and will have to race on a pre-selected track driving the Nissan Z sports car to record their best lap time.
